Over two hundred employees of the Puri Municipality have been sitting on dharna since September 26 alleging power tussle between the municipality Chairman and the Executive Officer and demanding a Government order as to whose orders should be carried out by them.
“Employees have been victims of the power tussle between the Chairman and the Executive Officer. While EO Manish Agarwal had transferred some employees, the Chairman nullified the order. Going a step ahead, the EO then issued a circular to
them to obey his order or else be penalised,” said employees’ leader Surendranath Das.
He said though the transfer responsibility lies with the Chairman as per law, yet the EO’s interference has created an ambiguous situation. The Government should come out with a clear-cut order whose order to be obeyed by employees, demanded Dash.
He said the Chairman has locked the office and, hence, the employees are sitting on the dharna.
