Ahead of the world famous Rath Yatra, cars for the deities are under construction at Puri. But, the brakes used in the chariots are made in Brajrajnagar under Jharsuguda district.
For the last 12 years, former employees of MCL and residents of Brajrajnagar Jaggu Luhar and Engineer Aswini Mishra have been preparing brakes for the Puri chariots.
Mishra had contacted the Jagannath temple administration and offered to prepare the same using modern technology. After necessary permission, Luhar and Mishra have been supplying the brakes for use in the chariots since 2008.
This year too, they have set up the ‘brake system’.
Mishra and three others have taken it to Puri for installation in the chariots ahead of the Rath Yatra on July 4. All of them have volunteered to provide their services at the yatra on their own expense.
