Hundreds of BJP activists on Tuesday courted arrest demanding resignation of Prime Minister Manamohan Singh and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for corruptions in their Governments.
New district party president Pravanjan Mahapatra and senior leader Krushna Chandra Jagdeb led the party’s Jail Bharo agitation against the corruptions and scams in the State and Union Governments.
A massive procession of party activists went through the city’s main streets and culminated in a public meeting before the district Collectorate.
Former Minister Surama Padhi, former MlA Baidhar Mullick, district party secretary Pravati Parida, Krushna Chandra Panda and Biswanath Rath addressed the meeting.
The speakers flayed the Manamohan Singh Government for the coal scam while they came down heavily upon Naveen Patnaik for patronising the chit fund corruption, increase in farmers’ suicide cases, mining scam, dal scam and ever-growing rape and murder cases.
