The BJP’s State women wing on Wednesday threatened to resort to a State-wide agitation if Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik does not come out to provide protection to women soon.
“While the accused in New Delhi’s Nirbhaya rape and murder case have been given death sentences, the almost dull progress in the investigations in Babina and Itishree cases shows how the Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janta Dal (BJD) Government is callous towards women’s protection. If the women are not provided protection, we would be bound to take to the streets,” said women wing president Simantini Jena in a Press release.
She pointed out the investigation in the Itishree killing case has not moved forward as a Biju Janta Dal (BJD) MP, School and Mass Education Minister and the Chief Minister are allegedly involved in the case.
Similarly, Jena slammed the State Government for taking no action in Barsha Swony dowry torture case. “While Barsha Swony is being threatened time and again on behalf of former Minister Raghunath Mohanty’s family, It is disappointing that the police are yet to provide protection to her,” Jena alleged.
