The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on Thursday directed the State Government to make provision of fans and light in the hazats at all police stations in the State.
lawyer and rights activist Byomakesh Tripathy has moved the OHRC in a petition last year urging it to direct the Government to facilitate basic amenities and living conditions in the hazat (male and female) of each police station on humanitarian consideration as the person involved in an alleged crime and put behind the bars is also a human being. The OHRC directed the Home Department, the Director General of Police and the IG (Modernisation) to make provisions of fans and light in the hazats without any further delay and asked them to submit a report of compliance to it within three months.
The matter has been listed on August 8, 2014 for further orders.
