The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the Bhadrak district Collector to take actions to ensure all weather roads and other basic amenities to the residents of Talagopbindha gram panchayat within eight weeks.

The NHRC passed this order acting on a petition filed by social activist and lawyer Radhakanta Tripathy.

Tripathy had, in his petition, mentioned that villagers of Malika Sahi, Hata Nagara, Nayak Sahi and Kahuniakaul village under the gram panchayat have been immensely due to lack of without all weather roads.

A weak embankment along the local dam project has added to their woes only. As the embankment has not been heightened ad stone-packed, more than 2,000 villagers are living in danger. Despite repeated requests, concerned authorities have not taken any action.

While children are facing problems to go to schools, many of them abandoned study. Senior citizens and pregnant women face a lot of problems in moving to hospitals. In most cases, pregnant women have delivered on the road.

Tripathy requested the NHRC to investigate the case impartially and independently and direct the Water Resources Secretary and the district Collector to act within eight weeks to ensure all weather road connectivity to all the hamlets.

Earlier acting on two separate petitions by Tripathy, the NHRC had asked the district administration to act over the issues of primary healthcare and other basic amenities, including establishment of a Post Office, in the localities.
