Proud of being my father's son, not lord Rama's: Mishra

CPI(M) politburo member and leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Surjya Kanta Mishra on Sunday ridiculed Union Food and Supplies Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti’s reported controversial comments stating that he is a son of his father and he cannot be a son of lord Rama.

“I can proudly say that I am the son of my father and not of lord Rama. I cannot ignore my father who has brought me up,” Mishra said while speaking at the 20th conference of the CPI(M)’s State unit here. The Minister had courted controversy by reportedly asking voters to elect sons of lord Rama and not “illegitimate sons”, at a public meeting in Delhi recently.

Stating that lord Rama had two sons, lav and Kush, Mishra wanted to know how others can be his sons. “My father has given me an identity,” Mishra said, accusing the NDA Government of being guided by RSS ideologies. Mishra alleged that the Sangh Parivar was planning to set up temples of Nathuram Godse. He said though he is not a follower of Mahatma Gandih’s ideologies yet he would favour Gandhi if a comparison between the latter and Godse is made. He called upon party workers to fight communal agenda of any kind.
