Demanding establishment of a proposed ESIC Medical College and Hospital in Rourkela, instead of at Bhubaneswar, members of Joint Action Committee (JAC), a forum fighting to get the institution at the Steel City, locked an ESIC camp office at Sector-2 area on Tuesday for an indefinite period.

According to sources, the forum activists also decided to meet the Prime Minister and Union labour Minister next week under the leadership of Sundargarh MP Hemanand Biswal to apprise them of the genuine ground for setting up of the health institution at Rourkela. Meanwhile, concerned over the protest by the activists, high level officials of the ESIC were rushing to Rourkela to take stock of the situation.

During the protest, senior advocate Muralidhar Parija, CITU State general secretary Bishnu Mohanty, Rourkela Bar Association president Ramesh Bal, CPIM District Committee secretary Banamali Dhupal, forum coordinator Mahendra Mishra, DCC president BN Pattanaik, Youth Congress president Sree Nair and many more leaders and representatives of different political parties, trade unions and organisations were present.
