Protest injustice: leader of Opp to law students

According to a survey conducted by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), 10 top richest persons of the country enjoy properties equivalent to that possessed by 30 crore people from the bottom level.

This was stated by leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra while addressing the annual day function of the Capital law College here on Friday.

Referring to the reality of the word ‘socialism’ in the Indian Constitution, the lawyer-politician said, “According to the Sengupta Commission, 77 per cent people of India spend Rs 20 a day while 57 per cent people in Odisha spend Rs 12 a day for food, education, clothing, medicine, etc.”

While the Constitution says the Government should take all possible steps to narrow down the difference between the rich and poor, the difference is widening even after 67 years of Independence. It’s a matter that needs to be debated, particularly in law colleges, Mishra said.

The Congress stalwart later exhorted the students to raise their voice over sensitive issues and against injustice and take interest in politics, if not political parties.

Congress MlA Tara Prasad Bahinipati said he has urged the State Government to provide fund to all law colleges, including private ones, for infrastructural development and to ensure that students belonging to poor families take admission in law colleges.

later, a prize distribution ceremony was held where 21 students of the college were given prizes for winning various competitions like song, dance, mono act, essay and debate, etc.

Former Minister Suresh Routray, OPCC vice-president Sibanand Ray, college Principal Nandini Misra and Students’ Union president Samarendra Das and secretary Om Kumar Baliarsingh were present.
