The Mahanadi Banchao Jivika Banchao Aviyan on Tuesday demanded publication of a whitepaper on the Mahanadi to enable people to know how the State would be affected by the projects over the river in Chhattisgarh.
The Aviyan fighting for the protection of the Mahanadi has decided to hold a Samavesh in the city on April 1, informed former Finance Minister Panchanan Kanungo in a Press meet here on Tuesday.
The forum also demanded that a tribunal be set up by the Centre solely to solve the Mahanadi water dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh under the Inter-State Water Dispute Act as soon as possible.
Blaming the BJD Government for suppressing facts over the issue, it demanded that the Odisha Government should issue a whitepaper on the Mahanadi issue without delay.
“We want that the State Government to be transparent on the Mahanadi issue. It should publish a whitepaper on Mahanadi without any delay to enable people of the State to know that how Odisha will be hit and to what extent,” said Aviyan’s convenor Sudarshan Chhotoray.
