The district administration on Thursday bulldozed several illegal structures on the Talseri-Udaipur beach under Bhograi block following reports that the makeshift houses were facilitating flesh trade in one of prominent tourist spots.
There have been reports that prostitution was rampantly carried out by roping in women from neighbouring districts of West Bengal in the temporary huts erected by some miscreants. It was also alleged that the pimps were charging Rs 500-Rs 5,000 from tourists for immoral activities.
Locals had objected to the flesh trade and they alleged it was running under the nose of enforcement agencies including police as they connived with the unscrupulous elements. The issue became serious when footage of sex trade in the huts of the beach went viral.
On Wednesday, district Collector DB Shinde, after being intimated about the prostitution business, had assured to take appropriate steps after verifying the allegations and facts.
On Thursday, the local Tehsildar and police, following instruction of the Collector, grounded the illegal structures on the beach under Section 133 of CrPc (to remove nuisance), reports added.
