With the State Government asking to set up at least four new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) for Odisha, the School Education and literacy Secretary of the Union Government has urged the State to immediately transfer land and provide facilities for setting up of the institutions.

School Education and literacy Secretary Anil Swarup informed the Odisha Government that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) had approved a proposal for opening 50 new KVs in the country.

The Odisha Government has sent the proposal for setting up of new KVs at Gunupur in Rayagada, Jagatsinghpur in Jagatsinghpur district, Champua and Anandpur in Keonjhar district. The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), which controls the KVs, has already informed various State Governments to offer land as per norms of the KVs. And, it has also asked to provide temporary accommodation required for opening KVs at the earliest.

There are 38 KVs running in Odisha providing quality education to over 60,000 students, sources said.

Swarup said that identified land is also required to be transferred to the KVS before administrative orders for opening KVs can be issued.

During his recent visit to Odisha, Swarup was happy over the school education system improvement and lauded efforts of the State Government in taking pioneering steps in this regard. So, Swarup urged the State Government to take up necessary groundwork to grab the four proposed KVs.

Receiving the information, Chief Secretary AP Padhi has asked the Secretary, Department of School and Mass Education to step up necessary ground work for setting up KVs in the respective districts.

The district Collectors have been asked to identify the land and make arrangements for transfer land in favour of the KVS. The State Government has asked the authorities in districts concerned to take up steps in a time bound manner so that Odisha does not lose the new KVs, which other States are trying to grab.
