Kendrapada SP Nitinjeet Singh directed Additional SP Ramesh Chandra Mohanty to conduct an inquiry into the alleged matter of police excess against a Dalit in the district.
According to Pattamundai SDPO Kedarnath Sahu, Sumant Jena (38), a resident of Naiadiha village, had been beaten by the in-charge of Choudakulat police outpost on Sunday when he had gone there to face an inquiry in a case. In-charge of Choudakulat police outpost Basant Satapathy used slangs and assaulted Jena by confining him to a room in order to force him to admit guilt. Jena, a heart patient, had fallen unconscious and later, was hospitalized.
Meanwhile, SP Singh on Monday withdrew Sub Inspector Satapathy from the Choudakulat police outpost and posted him at district police headquarters, whereas Niranjan Sundar Ray was posted temporarily at Choudakulat.
According to the SDPO, Jena is undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College Hospital.
When contacted, Additional SP Mohanty stated that he had started a probe on the alleged case and would submit the report to the SP within a day or two.
