The high-level committee headed by Director of Medical Education and Training (DMET) Babaji Charan Das that probed the death of three pregnant women soon after caesarean section at the VSS Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla in Sambalpur district has submitted its report, informed Health Secretary Arti Ahuja on Friday.
However, the contents of the report are not yet known. But Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak said the deaths were not due to side-effects of medicines. He added that explanations have been sought from the hospital authorities for not undertaking postmortem of the three deceased. The three women had died five hours after undergoing caesarean surgery on April 10 leading to allegations that the deaths were caused due to negligence on the part of the attending doctors.
After a hue and cry over the deaths, the Health Minister had announced an inquiry by an expert committee. The committee visited the VIMSAR on Monday and conducted the inquiry by questioning the attending doctors and other staff while seizing medicines used during the surgery.
