Probe ordered into S'pur rehab home atrocity

After getting allegations of atrocity against women inmates of a short stay home here, district Collector Samarth Verma ordered for a detail inquiry on Sunday.

As per information, six inmates of the Government funded short stay home, named Ashray, met the Collector and alleged that that the in-charge was misbehaving with them and even not providing proper foods and clothes. The in-charge, a woman, was very cruel to them and hardly took any care of the women inmates in distress condition, including the pregnant ones.

“The pregnant ladies and small children are not given nutritious food and the caretaker just runs an oppressive administration in Ashray to which we had been tolerating silently. But when it crossed every limit, we met the Collector,” said the victim inmates. Meanwhile, there have been sharp reactions among public here since in 90s the same organisation had earned a bad name for creating difficulties for the inmates.

The SC and ST Development Department of the district is inquiring into the allegations and if they are found to be true, action would be taken against the guilty, informed sources.

However, the in-charge of the organisation clarified that when she asked the inmates to maintain a disciplined life, she grew unpopular.
