A car was found abandoned and torched near Banipadar village under Raighar police limit on Raighar-Umarkote highway on Saturday. Police suspect the car was set ablaze at about 3 am and left abandoned.
Officials said it appeared the car was travailing towards Chhattisgarh.
Later on Sunday, one Rabi Sarma of Nadapur of Koraput district calming to be the owner of the car lodged an FIR in Raighar police station stating, he along with his friend Jagarnath Khuntia was travailing to Raipur but on the way they stopped and left for urination. Some villagers present there all of sudden shouted abusive language at them and abruptly came to attack them.
Out of fear they fled the spot. The nest morning, they found that their car was set ablaze.
An investigation was on, said the Umarkote SDPO.
