Probe Maheswar, Pinaki role by CBI: BJP

The State BJP on Friday questioned the role of Culture and law Minister Maheswar Mohanty and ruling BJD Puri lok Sabha member Pinaki Mishra in the murder of Puri Municipality Councillor Guna Sinhgari two years back and demanded CBI inquiry into the ghastly incident.

In view of the confession of the accused relating to attack on Minister Mohanty last month, it was necessary to refer the case to CBI to unearth the truth behind the murder of BJD leader Guna, said BJP spokesperson Sajjan Sharma here.

Talking to newsmen, Sharma said that the accused arrested in connection with the murderous attack on Mohanty had confessed during interrogation that they had attacked to avenge Guna’s murder. Besides, Guna’s mother also accused Mohanty of being involved in murder of his son, he pointed out. Sharma said while the BJD Government arrested the accused in the Guna murder case, party MP Pinaki Mishra went up to the Supreme Court to get them released on bail. Similarly, while the Government imposed a fine on mine owners involved in illegal mining, Mishra, being a lawyer, defended them and fought their case in the Supreme Court, he said.

Stating that the role of Mohanty and Mishra is suspicious, Sharma demanded that the duo be brought under the purview of an inquiry. Sharma alleged that many BJP leaders were patronizing criminal activities and there was no probity in public life. Besides, the Chief Minister has been protecting the erring BJD men during the last 14 years.

Sharma also raised the controversial Gayatri Panda sexual harassment case and said that in the incident Minister Mohanty who was the then Speaker of State Assembly and former Minister Debasis Nayak were sacked for they were tipped as the key accused. But Mohanty was given a berth in the Council of Ministers and now both of them were given party ticket to contest the ensuing 2014 elections, rued Sharma.
