Finally, the Vigilance department has begun an inquiry into the construction standard of a busy road stretching from Modipara to Sambalpur railway station in the heart of the city, called the farm road.
Getting allegation of substandard construction of the road from one Gyanabrata Das, the technical wing of Vigilance department from Cuttack conducted the inquiry. It was seen clearly that just after completion of the cement concrete work, the condition of the road rather deteriorated than before.
Hence, it involved loss of huge amount of the public money that worried the public. Das apart, many other conscious citizens of the town also had made similar allegations before different platforms including district administration and the vigilance department.
A four- member team from Cuttack, which is here for the probe, recorded the statements of the SDO and JE of PWD and the concerned contractor. “From the preliminary inquiry, it is ascertained that the work is of very low standard,” one of the team members said. “But we can’t say anything officially as the inquiry is yet to be completed,” he added.
The vigilance department needs to take samples of at least 10 per cent of the total roads constructed by the Sambalpur Municipality, DRDA and PWD.
