Probe into Bhuban rape and murder demanded

The Samajwadi Party has demanded before National Council for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Chairperson Stuti Narain Kacker requesting her to investigate the rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl at Maruaguda village under the Bhuban police station in Dhenkanal district.

In a letter, party State president Rabi Behera said the minor girl was allegedly raped and murdered by three culprits on Sunday night. Of the three, Sibananda Pradhan has been only arrested by the Bhuban police. Moreover, no compensation has been given to the victim’s family yet.

Behera urged the child rights panel chief to investigate the matter by sending a team for spot inquiry and take steps to pay compensation of `10 lakh to the victim’s family.

The SP State president reappraised the NCPCR chief on three other recent cases, where a minor girl died as her throat was slit by kite thread in Cuttack, a 17-year old child labour died in Sambalpur after being crushed in a crusher belt and a minor girl was raped at Jatni near Bhubaneswar.

“These cases reflect growing violence on children in Odisha and needs serious action to check rising crimes,” Behera added.
