Probe Gajapati property transactions: CM urged

Expressing gratitude to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for his help for treatment of scion of Gajapati dynasty Maharaja Gopinath Gajapati Narayan Deb, the king’s daughter Kalyani Gajapati has urged the CM to order an inquiry into the property transactions relating to the royal family over the past 35 years.

Kalyani recently wrote a letter to Patnaik mentioning that if anyone found guilty in illegal land transactions of the royal family should be punished as per law.

“If any money is recovered, that can be used for charitable work with consultation of the royal family,” she said.

She wrote the letter after the Gajapati district administration shifted the Maharaja to a private hospital in Chennai. Meanwhile, Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak visited the king at the hospital.

“I came to know that our property has been suspiciously handled by the palace managers and some other servants. Taking advantage of our absence, the managers sold property illegally or without giving full information to the royal family,” Kalyani’s letter said. She also expressed concern over the present condition of the Parlakhemundi Jagannath temple and requested the district authorities to set up a committee for reconstruction of the shrine.

“I thank the Chief Minister and citizens of Parlakhemundi for their kind help and respect towards the royal family. All prayers are bringing improvements in the health condition of the Maharaja,” said Kalyani.

Meanwhile, a delegation led by Parlakhemundi MlA K Surya Rao visited the Maharaja in Chennai and took stock of his health condition.

Rao said Kalyani’s letter to the CM is in line with the citizens’ demand for an inquiry into the palace property mismanagement and misappropriation.

The Parlakhemundi police have summoned former palace manager Anang Manjari Patra and her two brothers Sanjay Patra and Santosh Patra to depose before it in connection with the FIR lodged against them by the Parla Maharaja Suraksha Committee.
