Former PCC president Niranjan Patnaik demanded a thorough probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of a retired High Court Judge into the fraud committed by the chit fund companies in the State.
The call for an SIT probe is significant in the wake of suspected role of some influential BJD leaders and an explosive revelation by one firm chief about the involvement of Ministers and ruling party MlAs in the swindling of money.
In a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday, he reiterated his demand by asking for an SIT probe given the losses suffered by depositors in the State due to irregularities by law enforcement agencies. Besides, he demanded creation of a corpus fund to protect the interest of the small investors.
