Probe begins in godowns' harassment to millers

Published on:

The Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department has started an inquiry into the millers' allegation that private entrepreneur godowns (PEGs) are collecting undue charges from them during delivery of custom-milled rice in Koraput district.

According to sources, millers had alleged before the FS and CW Secretary that owners and managing staff of private godowns operating with permission from the Civil Supply Corporation at Dumriput and Koraput have been harassing them violating norms.

Millers alleged that their rice trucks are detained for days together over vague reasons, and owners and managers collect Rs 4,500 for a lot of stock during delivery but don't give proper weight slip and rice acceptance note. They had urged the Secretary to conduct an inquiry into the matter and take action against the offenders.

During their meeting with the Secretary, the representatives of the Koraput Millers' Association had also requested him to allow them to keep more rice in FCI godowns and State rice receiving centers to curb corruption.
