Prisoner flees from S'pur Jail

A prisoner of Sambalpur jail, Chakra Munda (46), managed to flee away during the morning hour on Friday after jumping over the 30-feet-high jail boundary wall.

Chakra, a murder convict, had on April 4 come to this jail from Sundargarh district’s Banei jail for psychiatric treatment. He had been lodged in the psychiatric ward of the jail since then. He managed to jump off by help of a service wire inside the ward, said Jailor Susanta Kumar Raut.

Chakra has already spent three years in jail. Meanwhile, the jail authorities have suspended a Warder for negligence of duty and disciplinary action has been taken against two others, informed Raut, adding that the police were searching for the absconding prisoner.
