The Commissionerate police on Friday arrested one of the three accused in connection with the attempt to snatch the mobile phone and gold chain from a brave girl who fought the miscreants successfully recently in the city.
The police nabbed the prime accused Purnadatt Mohanty for allegedly attacking and trying to snatch the belongings of the karateka Chinmayee on Sundayevening. However, his two associates are still at large.
Mohanty along his two associates attacked Chinmayee and snatched her mobile phone and gold chain near the Utkal Karate School while she was speaking on her mobile at 9.30 pm.
However, Chinmayee who is trained in martial arts and self-defence, chased the miscreants for almost three kilometers up to the Unit II area and intercepted the trio leading to a pitched fight between them.
The girl dashed her scooter against the snatchers’ bike, as a result of which they fell down. She forced them to retreat, leaving their bike on the spot.
Following her brave attempt, BMC Mayor Anant Narayan Jena and Sports and Youth Services Minister Sudam Marandi felicitated her.
