Members of the Odisha Primary Teachers’ Association would stage a mass rally here on December 16 demanding that they be paid Rs 9,300 and grade pay of Rs 4,200 as per the Central Government scale of pay to the primary teachers under pay band-II.

Addressing a Press meet here, association president Rajesh Mohanty said the primary teachers in the States like in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, etc., are getting salary under pay band-II. But the primary teachers in Odisha are getting salary under pay band-I, he said.

AS per the recommendation of Anomaly Committee, the pay structure of Group-D employees, nurses, jail employees and forest guards etc has already been amended, the members said. But, the State Government is showing its callousness attitude towards 1.5 lakh primary teachers of the State, he added.

The association also demands that the period of six years of contractual

appointment of an employee be counted in Government service.

The association would submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister, the Finance Minister and the School and Mass Education Minister through the Block Education Officers on December 5 and through the Collectors on December 11.
