Primary teachers under the banner of the Odisha Primary Teachers’ Association (OPTA) (Under New Pension Scheme) would gherao the State Assembly on February 7 pressing for fulfilment of their demands, informed association president Brahamananda Moharana at a Press meet held here on Sunday.

Maharana alleged that the negligence of the Government towards the primary teachers is destroying the primary education system. He also said that strong resentment is brewing among the primary teachers as the declaration for restructuring of the primary teacher cadre has not been executed yet.

Mentioning that the Government is also not making the Right to Education Act stringent, Maharana said that even if in the Right to Education Act it is mentioned that the teachers should not be involved nonteaching activities, the Government is forcing them to do such activities which is hampering the education system.

The association also demanded filling up of the different vacant posts, publishing the restructure of the cadre at the earliest, hike in the salary of the junior teachers by 15 per cent and 10 per cent each year and abolition of the new pension scheme.

Among others, OPTA general secretary Bibhu Prasad Sahu, Praveen Kumar Das, Sudhansu Sekhar Nayak and Subrat Badjena were present.
