Primary teachers rally against Govt apathy

The Odisha Primary Teachers’ Association (under new pension scheme) held a massive rally here in front of the State Assembly demanding Central pay-scale, prominent among their six-point charter of demands.

Association president Rajesh Mohanty said they have launched their stir pressing for fulfillment of their demands.

“On September 19 this year, the Government had held a high-level meeting, and we were assured that our demand for salary at par with Central pay-scale was justified and it would be fulfilled by October. But nothing tangible has happened as yet,” said Mohanty.

He said in 21 other States, the primary teachers are drawing salary at the Central pay-scale rate.

“The Government here is deliberately neglecting us despite our eligibility. We are being treated here as labourers. Most of us have already completed for six years as Sikhya Sahayaks. But, that six-year period is not being taken into consideration,” said Mohanty.

Besides, the promotion of the CT teachers has also been stalled willingly, he added.

He warned that the association would intensify the stir if their demands are not addressed at the earliest.
