The Odisha Primary Teachers’ Association will launch an indefinite stir fromDecember 14 in the State capital with various demands. Around 70,000 primary teachers from across the State would join.

They would stage rallies in their respective blocks on December 9 and submit memos to the Block Education Officers (BEOs) for the Chief Minister, the Finance Minister, the School and Mass education Minister and the SME Secretary before embarking on the State level agitation, said a Press release of the association.

The demands of the association include salary of the primary teachers in Pay Brand-2 (Pay-`9,300 and Grade Pay- `4,200), counting of six years of Siksha Sahayak service period as Government service, promotion facility to the +2 and CT qualified teachers, subject-wise appointment of teachers in the UP schools, payment of salary to all teachers under one head, and change in the name from ‘Zilla Parishad teacher’ to ‘primary teacher’.

The association alleged that though it had discussed with the School and Mass Education Minister and the SME officials on October 26 and November 19 last over various demands of the teachers, but nothing tangible has been done so far.

It charged that the Government has been adopting a dilatory tactic in fulfilling the demands.
