Prima facie evidence exists: Satyam's bail application rejected

A lower court here on Tuesday rejected the bail application of Satyam Raul, the adopted son of fake godman Sarathi Baba alias Santosh Raul.

SDJM Bibaswat Gautam rejected the bail plea as he found prima facie evidence against the accused for which he was arrested. Moreover, the Crime Branch also vehemently opposed the bail plea, stating that investigations into the charges against the father-son duo are still on.

“We will move the Sessions Court for Satyam’s bail on Wednesday,” informed his counsel Manas Chand. The Sessions Court is also scheduled to hear the bail application of Sarathi Baba on August 31 as his bail plea has already been rejected by the SDJM Court earlier.

The father-son duo were booked by the Crime Branch under Sections 120-B, 420, 467, 471, 341, 379 and 506 of IPC along with Section 3 of SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Section 25 of Arms Act and Section 7 of Religious Institutions (Prevention of Misuse) Act.

Dropping Section 420 (cheating) of IPC and the provisions of SC and ST (Prevention and Atrocities) Act, Arms Act and Religious Institutions (Prevention of Misuse) Act in Satyam’s case, the Crime Branch has further added Section 423 (fraudulent execution of deed) and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) of IPC against him.

However, Section 467 of IPC (forgery of valuable security and will) slapped against the duo would be an impediment for granting bail to the accused as conviction under this section invites life imprisonment or a term which may extend to ten years.
