The district administration, Information and Public Relations Department and local scribes’ body observed the National Press Day on this year’s theme ‘Challenges before Media’ here on Thursday.
DRDA Project Director Biswajit Das presided over the meeting while district Collector Yamini Sarangi, district SSA Project Coordinator Sapan Kumar Jena and DIPRO Kaminiranjan Patnaik graced as guests. Sarangi spoke on the fundamental objective of journalism and role of Press Council of India to exercise an authority in its duty to safeguard the independence of press.
local scribes spoke on the difficulties affecting journalist in recent times. They also said the State Government should awake up for the scribe’s sufferings.
A rally was held to highlight the importance of the day. Quiz and essay competitions were also organised among college students.
