President Pranab Mukharjee has given consent to inaugurate a function for a year-long celebration of the 200th year completion of the Paika Revolt, informed Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday.
Pradhan said the Ministry of the Culture is all set to organise the function to be held on July 20 at the Vigyan Bhawan,
New Delhi.
“This function will resurrect the history of the Paika Revolt 1817,” he added.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in this year’s Budget has announced funds for the celebration of the Paika Revolt.
A committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to celebrate the function. Arun Jaitley, Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Senior Odisha BJP leader Biswabhusan Harichandan and litterateur and former administrator Harprasad Das are the
other members of the
committee.
