Instances of poor ambulance service in remotes areas of Odisha are coming to fore one after another with another case of a pregnant woman being carried by a sling by her relatives being reported in Kalahandi district as an ambulance failed to turn up.

According to reports, Malati Majhi of Kansabundei village under lanjigarh block complained of labour pain, following which her family members called a 102 ambulance to carry her to hospital.

However, the ambulance couldn’t reach the village reportedly due to deteriorated road conditions.

Finding no other way, Malati’s kin carried her by a sling for around 6 km. She was later taken by a relative’s vehicle to lanjigarh, from where an ambulance carried her to the District Headquarters Hospital at Bhawanipatna.

However, the unborn child died during operation at the hospital as it took place after a delayed period of time. The condition of the woman was stated to be critical, reports further said. The concerned Block Development Officer (BDO) has ordered a probe into the incident.
