Protests and demonstrations by BJD workers of Bijepur against the candidature of Finance Minister Prasanna Acharya for the Bijepur Assembly elections have put the ruling party in a fix.
On the other hand, the supporters of Acharya have urged BJD chief Naveen Patnaik to allow their leader to contest from his old seat of Redhakhol.
Sources in the party said Acharya, a BJD vice-president, had a discussion with Patnaik at the Naveen Nivas on Tuesday night on this issue.
later, he reportedly told his supporters at his residence that he would prefer to work for the party organisation since he is not interested to contest from Bijepur.
Acharya’s decision would be known only after he makes a public statement, said sources in the party. However, Acharya was not available for his comments.
