Odisha Bhumihina Praja Samiti State president and BJP leader Er Debashisha Hota deposited a list of 1,048 landless poor of Bhuban NAC, 387 of Kamakhyanagar NAC and 664 of Dhenkanal Municipality under the Odisha Slum Dwellers’ land Right Act - 2017 at the Collector’s office here for rehabilitation.
He threatened to gherao the Dhenkanal Collectorate from March 20 till fulfillment of all the demands with more than 10,000 supporters, if new Collector Nikhil Pawan Kalyan would not listen to the plight of the poor, suffering for last many years.
The Slum land Right Act has been passed on September 13, 2017 by the Government of Odisha after Er Hota’s continuous protest all over the State.
The Act says that if the slum is in NAC area, then the beneficiaries individually should get ROR over 65 square meters, i.e. 700 square feet and if the slum is in municipality area, then the beneficiaries individually should get ROR over 45 square meters, i.e. 485 square feet. However, neither in Bhuban and Kamakhyanagar NACs nor in Dhenkanal Municipality, there is implementation of the law.
