Till missing M’giri youths handed over
Nabarangpur Congress MP Pradip Majhi will go on fast-unto-death in front of the Raj Bhavan here from Friday demanding handover of youths who went missing while they were in police custody to their respective families.
Majhi is already on a dharna before the Raj Bhavan since Wednesday demanding action against the SDPO of Malkangiri for his alleged role in the disappearance of Trinath Samrath, a native of Narayanguda in the district.
Several other Congress leaders present at Majhi’s Press conference held before the Raj Bhavan apprehended many missing persons in the district might have been killed on the charge of being Maoists.
The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the Governor seeking his intervention to trace Samrath, who has gone missing after being arrested on theft charges on April 23 last year.
It is to be noted that the PCC had constituted a fact-finding team led by Congress leader Ganeswar Behera, who had visited the village.
According to the team which visited the village on January 28 this year, the victim was mercilessly beaten by the police and is suspected to have succumbed to serious injuries in police custody. The police took several steps to erase evidence of their black deed, the team members alleged.
