Pradhan slams State's 'Teachers on Call' move

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sundayblasted the State Government for its attempt to engage teachers on contract basis under a ‘Teacher on Call’ move and said the programme is nothing but like hiring Ola and Uber taxies.

He also wondered why the Government is not appointing unemployed BEd and CT youths instead of calling retired teachers to teach on contract basis.

“Students are the future of the State. They have to be invested upon. You cannot call teachers as if they are like taxis which would come when you call them,” Pradhan told reporters here.

Notably, the State Government has floated the scheme of ‘Teachers on Call’ under which retired teachers would be called for teaching in schools on contractual basis with a monthly remuneration of `10,000.

Pradhan also criticising the Government for the Kalahandi incidence of a man carruing his wife’s body on his shoulders for 12 km said the Government here is more into “mere announcements and less work”.

“There is no coherence among the Chief Minister, the Health Minister and the Kalahandi district Collector. While the CM is saying there is a scheme for free transport of dead bodies, the same did not happen in the Kalahandi case. The Collector and other district officials are trying to suppress the matter,” alleged Pradhan.
