Taking forward the agenda for the Swachhata Pakhwada on the fourth day of the campaign, the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) took steps for a public awareness building exercise by cleaning the stretch of road from the DAV Public School to the Nuabazar Chowk on Sunday.
The cleaning drive was undertaken in association with members of the Paradip Shakshyarata Samity and the Paradip Municipality and PPT employees. Garbage of plastics, dry leaves heaps, discarded oil refills, waste straw heaps, etc., which used to block the passages into roadside drainages and creating unhygienic atmosphere, were disposed of.
The PPT Medical Department in association with the municipality and the Sakshyrata Samity also simultaneously undertook a cleaning programme at Majhipada of the Bauriapalanda slum in the periphery of the port town. Under the guidance of Chief Medical Officer Dr P Panda and in the presence of Municipality Chairman Basant Kumar Biswal, women volunteers of the Sakshyrata Samity and Anganwadi Workers cleaned the slum road, market area and drainages, removed the roadside garbage, wild vegetation and sprayed anti-mosquito oil in stagnant water bodies, spread bleaching powder for disinfecting the slum area.
Similarly, at Madhuban Pump House, under the aegis of PH Division (Mech) of the Engineering Department, officers and workmen cleaned the shrubs and wild bushes from the Raw Water I & II areas.
