The Paradip Port Trust authorities, taking note of the ongoing protest being staged by the Clearing and Forwarding (CF&H) workers, on Thursday appealed to them to withdraw their stir since the PPT management has already initiated steps to meet their demands.
The issue of the CF&H workers had already been taken up in the Trust Board meeting held on August 12, 2015 and a sub-committee of the board had been formed consisting of the PPT Deputy Chairman, two labour trustees and two other trustees to submit a consolidated proposal on the issue.
The sub-committee has, meanwhile, submitted its report, and the board has agreed in principle on October 1 to consider the request of the Management Committee and directed the sub-committee to work out a comprehensive VRS proposal and a cost-benefit analysis for regularisation of the workers, said a PPT Press release.
In the mean time, a letter has also been received from the Union Shipping Ministry on October 20 to let it know the financial implications for VRS/ regularisation of CF&H workers. Accordingly, the sub-committee met October on 27, and next date of meeting is on October 30, and a draft proposal to the Ministry is under finalisation.
In view of this, the port management requested the CF&H workers not to go for strike since the proposal would be finalised and sent to the Ministry shortly, said the release.
