With the theme “Celebrate Biodiversity”, the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) observed the World Environment Day on Friday. In the Covid-19 situation, this year’s plantation programme was conducted in a simple manner, following social distancing norms.

The PPT intends to plant around 1 lakh trees in this fiscal in the locality. PPT Chairman Rinkesh Roy planted a sapling at the PPT Golf Course. It was followed by plantation in the premises of Paradip Sakshyarata Samiti. The PPT plantation drive would be executed through the Odisha Forest Development Corporation (OFDC).

As part of the drive, the casuarina forests that have been depleted near the beach are being planned for rejuvenation along with tree cover in the Fishery Harbour and Mahanadi mouth area. The township will be planted with fruit-bearing trees. All this would help restore the tree cover that has been destroyed by cyclones in the last 10 to 15 years.

PPT Deputy Chairman AK Bose, HODs and other officials along with OFDC officials also participated in the programme.
