PPT observes 'No Vehicle Day'

Published on:

This port township woke up to a very peaceful day on Wednesday. For a change, there was very less traffic, less pollution and less noise on the roads as the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) observed a “No Vehicle Day”.

The town witnessed walking and cycle riding by PPT officials and employees on the roads. PPT Chairman Rinkesh Roy led the endeavour from the front by walking to the office all the way from his official quarters.

The basic objective was to create awareness among the public and also reduce the traffic congestion and enable PPT officers and employees to play an active role in curbing the global warming. Not only PPT officials and employees but also port users gave their two and four-wheelers a miss for the day and opted for walk and bicycles instead.

Officials and staffs of the Chennai Radha organised a rally to emphasise the importance of reduction of use of motor vehicles to reduce pollution.

All denizens lauded the PPT’s efforts and some of them voluntarily supported the drive by using bicycles.
