Paradip Port Trust (PPT) Chairman Sudhansu Sekhara Mishra was on Friday felicitated by the Jagatsinghpur District Citizens’ Forum for his outstanding work for the port’s development, for winning the Golden Peacock National Quality Award-2014 and contribution towards introduction of two new trains from Paradip.

Excise and Cooperation Minister Damodar Rout felicitated Mishra in the presence of KIIT founder Achyuta Samanta, forum secretary Rabi Behera and other eminent persons.

Behera said that though Mishra took charge as the PPT chief only one and a half years ago, the port has handled an all-time record quantity of 68 MT of cargo during 2013-14, which is the highest throughput in the port’s history.

The port has achieved the second highest position in terms of cargo handling and percentage of growth in traffic among all the Major Ports during 2013-14.

In his address, Mishra announced that the port would set up a 300-bed super specialty hospital at Paradip. “We have already floated the tender on July 28, and once the consultant is appointed, the project will be completed within six months,” he said.

Mishra also announced another big project at the port, which would create huge employment opportunities.

“The port is planning to set up a multimodal logistics park (MMlP) at the port town. The logistics park will include facilities like warehouses, Special Economic Zone (SEZ), trade zone, distribution centres, storage areas, container rail terminal, container handling facilities, cold storages, distribution centers, air cargo points and restaurants,” he said.
