Power tariff hike anti-people: BJP

The BJP would stage a dharna in front of the Raj Bhavan here protesting against the State Government’s decision to hike electricity tariff. The party leaders said the decision is anti-people and against the interest of the farmers. The common consumer would pay 20 paise more per unit of electricity, while farmers would pay 40 paise more per unit, they added.

The State Government had assured the people that the condition of electricity distribution and generation would be improved and people would get cheap electricity after entry of private players in the sector, but it failed to keep its promise. The private players started cheating the people of the State, said the BJP leaders.

BJP spokesperson Sajjan Sharma said the State Government has to collect long pending arrear of Rs 7,098 crore on the power distribution companies. The Government has to take stringent action against the officials who helped the companies to cheat people of the State, he added. Sharma asked the State Government that why it fears to the CAG audit on the power sector. The Government might land in trouble after the audit, he added.
