The Tata Power, which is in charge of power distribution in Odisha, is exploiting power consumers for years. Even though this is being informed to the Energy Minister, Gridco and OERC, their silence has emboldened the company, said senior Congress leader Panchanan Kanugo at a Press meet here on Wednesday.
The Tata Power, instead of carrying out meter reading after 30 days every month, is carrying out meter reading after a delay of 10 days, due to which instead of minimum slab rate, the company is collecting tariffs at 50 to 100 slab rate. By this, the company is raking in profits worth crores of rupees from the State. Thought the Government knows this, it is silent over it.
Congress spokesperson Rajani Mohanty said there are frequent power cuts, but the Energy Minister is using outrageous terms for it. In the State capital, there are power outages every day in different areas.
