When 80 per cent coronavirus positive cases are in home isolation in Kalahandi district, frequent power cuts in the town and village areas have added to the woes of the residents. The patients too have been suffering at Kamthana and other Covid hospitals due to the power cuts.
A hospitalised Covid patient’s relative, Naheda alleged on social media that due to frequent power failure, patients are feeling suffocated and demanded some alternate solution immediately. On social media people are also seen discussing about increasing the number of generators at the hospitals. When the power outage remains 10-15 times a day in Bhawanipatna, village scenario is comprehensible.
Depur based, Deba Nag alleged that once the power goes off it resumes after hours. On Tuesday more than 10 times power failed here at Bhawanipatna and on Wednesday morning again power failed which resumed after hours. A Chartered Accountant of Bhawanipatna, Sanjay Kumar Makhija said he had complained several times about power interruption to Energy Minister Divya Shankar Mishra on social media but the situation has not yet improved. Electricity officials are blaming the overload factors saying the district requires 100 MW power supply whereas it is currently getting 80 MW.
Interruption of power supply has been reported in the block of Kesinga, Junagarh, Bhawanipatna and Koksara. At present, Kalahandi is receiving power from Therubali and another new 220 KV grid is about to start at Kesinga where power will be supplied from Balangir district. Executive engineer, Kalahandi, Debadatta Bhoi said, “The line works are in progress from Balangir to Kesinga and we hope that the problem will be resolved soon.”
