Power cuts, low voltage woes in B’pur

Published on:

After the Tata Power took over the management and operations of Wesco and Southco, there seems to be no change on the ground in quality and uninterrupted power supply since January.

There is no improvement either in the overall quality of power supply and rational load distribution, or in low voltage and load shedding, causing great inconvenience to the consumers in Brahmapur.

After takeover by the Tata Power, the consumers of silk city had hoped that the distribution and management of power in the city would substantially improve in terms quality, cost effectiveness, infrastructure, and improvement in low voltage, but all the hopes and aspirations of the consumers have been shattered. None of its engineers is made accountable for such poor supply of power to consumers.

The maintenance of different substations and the grid appears to be low and inferior as it reportedly lacks technical expertise and infrastructure in restoring defunct lines immediately.

The routine visit of engineers to different substations and localities and inspecting existing lines having low voltage is almost non-existent.

The power supply in Gandhinagar West area of the city went off at around 9 pm on June 1 and came at 2 pm on Wednesday forcing the consumers to remain in dark without electricity for more than 12 hours under 45 degree Celsius temperature.

The residents of the area are suffering from low voltage for last 10 years, but their repeated demands to change their existing connection with better load to erstwhile Southco remain unheeded. The consumers of Gandhinagar third line extension (west) are the worst hit not only in low voltage, but also frequent power cut. The Senior Citizens Forum questioned the Government to make its stand clear whether the Government supports the Tata Power or the people who suffers grossly from such frequent power cut and extremely low voltage.

According to an insider, there is no sufficient number of vehicles and repairing equipments to provide immediate service. Many existing technicians are reportedly not professionally competent to restore power supply in a defunct line instantly.

The Government should now revoke the takeover agreement with Tata on ground of poor power supply immediately and vest the same to another reliable party who can ensure uninterrupted power supply and remove the low voltage problem of the consumers in many parts of the city, said a senior citizen.
