The State Government on Thursday announced creation of as many as 10,301 new posts in the ranks of nurses, technicians, grassroots-level health workers and other paramedics along with 406 posts of dentists to be appointed in the peripheral health institutions. It was informed by Health and Family Welfare Minister Damodar Rout.

The new paramedic posts include 5,164 auxiliary nurses and midwives (ANMs), 991 male health workers (MHW), 2,934 staff nurses, 954 laboratory technicians and 258 radiographers at the peripheral health institutions, from the sub-centres, public health centres (PHCs) to community health centres (CHCs) and district headquarters hospitals (DHHs).

Apart from that, the Government also created 406 posts of dentists. The Government also decided to regularise the contractual posts of 19 dentists working at the Government hospitals.

Dr Rout expressed hope that the new posts would not only strengthen healthcare services at the grassroots but also enable the State to meet the Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) stipulated under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) programme.
