Sundargarh MP and Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram on Friday requested Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to appoint senior and experienced officers at the Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) and the Rourkela Smart City ltd (RMCl) at the earliest so the Rourkela Smart City project would be completed on time.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, Oram, citing a news story, expressed resentment over shortage of IAS officers in Odisha to hold key portfolios.

“Though a year has passed, there is no headway marked in the the Rourkela Smart City project for shortage of officials. The State Government inattention to the project is evident from the fact that an officer of ADM rank, who is already burdened with two more portfolios, has been given the charge of the Rourkela Smart City project,” remarked Oram.

He further informed that the RMC is having 700 vacancies for which RMC works are badly hampered. On the other hand, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been provided with sufficient manpower and experienced officers to execute the Smart City work within stipulated timeline.

“I am failed to understand this kind of step-motherly attitude of the State Government for Rourkela in particular and Sundargarh district in general,” he rued and requested the CM to issue necessary instructions to post experienced officers both at the RMC and RSCl so that the Smart City project would be completed in time.
