Post-harvest techno training held in B'swar

A post-harvest technology training programme for farmers was organised by the Central Warehousing Corporation at the KVK, Baliapal in Baleswar district on Monday.

About 45 farmers from north Baleswar participated in the programme. KVK Baliapal coordinator Dr Sanjay Mohanty disseminated information about the post harvesting methods and the benefits for peasants.

Baleswar MP RK Jena graced the occasion as the chief guest.

“We have experienced that while increased productivity is an essential component of a vibrant agricultural sector, improved post-harvest handling and processing is essential to ensure high-quality products reach the markets. Even when the yields are high, farmers lose income due to poor post-harvest practices,” said Jena.

Stating that 70 percent of rural people in Baleswar district depend on agriculture, Jena said the farmers whose role has been reduced to producer can be transformed into producer-cum-processor and, thus, they would get more dividends against their hard labour and investment by using appropriate technologies.

At the end of programme storage bins were distributed among the farmers.
