Whereas the State Government is claiming there are a number of welfare schemes for the poor, a poor elderly couple of Sundargarh district along with their children has been residing in a dilapidated clay house covered with tarpaulin as roof and their sorrows are yet to be addressed by the local officials.
According to sources, Durga Gop(78), his 70 –year-old wife and their 40-year-old disabled son, an unmarried daughter and a grandson of Teliposh road under Kuanrmunda Gram Panchayat live very miserably. Durga gets a very small amount of old age pension. To run his family, he sells vegetables and whatever meager amount he earns , he runs his family with much difficulty.
Durga’s physically disabled son depends on him whereas his 30-year- old unmarried daughter works as a daily wage labour in a factory. Since the factory’s financial condition is very bad, she is also not getting her salary in time.
Durga has covered the roof portion of his house by a tarpaulin. The house is in such a bad shape that it can collapse at any time. looking into his poverty, a kind hearted person had given him a tarpaulin which he has covered over his house as roof.
Durga is now very much disturbed thinking how he and his family will stay in the dilapidated house in coming summer and rainy season. He reportedly had applied for allotment of a house under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana(PMAY) but he has not yet been allotted a house.
“Durga’s name had appeared in the PMAY list to get a house but since he has no Patta in his name, he was not allotted house under PMAY,” said BDO, Kuanrmunda block P luhar.
“I will definitely look into it and will see that this poor person gets assistance from our side at the earliest,” added luhar.
