Poor gender ratio cause of concern for voters

Expressing satisfaction that Cuttack district has a healthy voter-to-population ratio, Collector NC Mishra, who is also the District Election Officer, on Friday called upon the political parties to cooperate with the district electoral roll purification programme so as to improve the gender ratio among the voters.

Cuttack district has nearly 71 voters for every hundred population, which is more than the State and national ratios. But some urban Assembly segments in the district have a poor gender ratio among voters in which the number of women voters is precariously low.

The segments like Cuttack Sadar, Cuttack City and Choudwar have less than 850 women voters per every 1,000 male voters, informed a source, stressing that the political parties at booth level must work towards improving it.

The Collector informed that the electoral roll purification programme-2016 has already begun in the district from April 1, in which the booth-level officers are moving from door to door to rectify the voter list by deleting the names of the deceased persons and asking the new voters to enrol themselves immediately.

It was ascertained that over 96 per cent of voters in the district have received their voter identity cards and steps are being taken to make it hundred per cent.
